Hondo, as an alumnus of Spartan Wrestling I want to thank you for your candid comments about the program. I am so sad how far it has fallen. Either they want to kill it or just don’t care. I love MSU and wrestled for MSU and wouldn’t let my son wrestle there. I can name MAC programs that are better. Very sad what has been allowed to happen. You don’t need to print this, but if you do please do not use my name for obvious reasons. (Name Withheld)
I got a lot of email/comments about the MSU wrestling program after I addressed it the last time. Here is a small sampling.
Hondo, I love Mark Hollis and I am so grateful to him for what he has done. I also shake my head at how he has let wrestling fall to the embarrassment that it is. Seth
Hondo, Mark Hollis is great for MSU and it is time he puts MSU wrestling to sleep. It is a waste of a program and money. Ron
Hondo, MSU wrestling is a laughingstock and MSU needs to cut it, or fix it, but they are doing nothing and it is a joke. Brian
Hondo, I think MSU has too many sports and they need to start the cutting on the mats. I was told by a member of Spartan fund staff that the wrestling political lobbies are too strong and MSU doesn’t want the headache from them. If those lobbies don’t want to pony up who cares. No one cares about MSU wrestling; that is why no one goes. How powerful can wrestling people be if they can’t get people to show up and buy tickets and donate to the program? Ed
Mr. Carpenter, I am a passionate supporter of wrestling at the prep level in the state of Michigan. I would suggest that MSU doesn’t have a wrestling program. Perhaps if MSU invested any money into it they would get results. It is an embarrassment because MSU doesn’t care and keeps it barely on life support. Ken
