Plenty of attention has been paid to the change at the top of the NCAA softball rankings after Oklahoma’s first loss in more than three years. But it’s the SEC that dominates the rankings.

In the latest ESPN.COM/USA SOFTBALL Top 25 poll, 12 SEC teams were ranked, including Mississippi State at No. 23. The Bulldogs (17-3) dominated their home tournament last weekend, winning all six games, including five via the run rule, and outscored opponents 65-7.

Mississippi State’s start has surpassed the SEC coaches preseason poll that had MSU predicted to finish last in the SEC. But now the Bulldogs get to show those coaches wrong up close.

No. 23 Mississippi State opens SEC play this weekend, starting with the only unranked SEC team, Ole Miss.
