Mississippi State Soccer Bounced From NCAA Tournament with 1-0 Loss

The most successful season in Mississippi State soccer history came to a close on Sunday as No. 3 Stanford scored an early goal and then successfully outlasted the Bulldogs 1-0.
Mississippi State had never reached the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament before. The Bulldogs finished the season 12-6-5.
Elise Evans scored in the 11th minute for the Cardinal. The sophomore defender was in perfect position to bury her second goal of the season after midfielder Maya Doms' original header off a Stanford corner hit the crossbar and rebounded out.
The Cardinal had an edge in shots of 15-7, and took six corners. Senior Ryan Campbell was credited with two saves in the victory, as the Cardinal notched its fourth straight shutout and hasn't yielded a goal in the tournament. The last goal conceded occurred in the 68th minute against No. 2 UCLA on Oct. 29, which corresponds to 383:37 minutes of game play.
Stanford will host Nebraska for a chance to play in the College Cup. The Cardinal has reached the NCAA quarterfinal round for the 11th time in the last 16 seasons.
Mississippi State and Georgia were the last two Southeastern Conference teams remaining in the tournament. The Bulldogs' season also came to an end with a 1-1 tie, as Clemson advanced 5-3 on penalty kicks.
