Mississippi State’s Jessika Carter Honored With The Gillom Trophy

For the first time in three years, A Bulldog is named the best women’s college basketball player in the magnolia state.

CHOCTAW, Miss – Jessika Carter in her final season for the Bulldogs has been awarded the Gillom Trophy for her play this season.

She becomes the first Bulldog since Rickea Jackson in the 2019-2020 season to be honored with the award.

The Gillom Trophy is awarded to the best female college basketball player in the state annually. Marquesha Davis of Ole Miss and Domonique Davis of Southern Miss were also finalists for the award.

This season Carter is walking into arenas averaging a double-double on the season with up to 15 points a game and 10 rebounds. She also nearly averaged two blocks again alongside those stats. She also was named to the 2024 Second Team ALL-SEC and for the season had 13 double-doubles while shooting 52.1 percent from the field. With her double-doubles, she ranks third in program history while also being second among active conference players.

Carter's career with the Bulldogs will end with being one of three players in history to surpass 1,500 career points and 1,000 career rebounds. In the history of the Lady Bulldogs, she ranks sixth in points with 1,700 and is third all-time with rebounds and blocks accumulating 1,097 boards, and 234 rejections.

She will finish the season with the second-best shooting percentage in the SEC, and while the end of the season did not go as many faithful would have hoped, she was productive till the end for her teammates and the city of Starkville.
