The No. 13 cornerback prospect in the 2027 class has locked in his official visit date with the Huskers, which is set for June.

Joining a group of seven other recruits within the same cycle over the weekend of June 19, Tavares Harrington has Nebraska gaining ground. In the days following his first visits to campus, which took place on March 28 to watch the Red-White scrimmage, the four-star defensive back has already scheduled his return.

Here's everything you need to know about the Mount Carmel (IL) star.

Visit Date Set

The Husker staff has long been vetting Harington within the 2027 class, becoming just the sixth Power Four program to offer the talented defensive back at the time. With the two sides' relationship dating back to March 2025, it appears to have finally begun paying off.

Still, it took a while for things to actually start heating up. NU made the cut for Harrington's top 10, which he announced on March 11, and his first campus visit took place on Saturday afternoon. In town for the Big Red's spring scrimmage, the visit went well enough to already know he's coming back again this summer.

Set for June 19, Harrington's official visit is no small win. To date, the rising senior has already gathered an impressive list of 38 Division I offers. With NU being one of just two schools to have locked in an official with the defensive back, here's who the Huskers will be competing with down the stretch.

Other Schools in Harrington's Recruitment

Right now, Nebraska finds itself on the outside looking in, despite currently being the first program he will visit officially. Alabama is the other school to have done the same. His visit to Tuscaloosa is set one week after traveling to Lincoln.

Oddly enough, Notre Dame has a distinct lead, even though they've yet to lock in an official visit with the defensive back. Harrington has already been to South Bend twice throughout his prep career and, in all likelihood, will travel to campus yet again. With the Fighting Irish leading in the proximity battle between his top schools, pulling him out of their grasp will be no small feat.

Other programs Harrington has traveled to that also made his top 10 include Michigan (once), Ole Miss (once), and Georgia (once).

Nebraska's 2027 Class to Date

With seven verbal commitments in hand, Nebraska's class is currently ranked No. 10 nationally. As impressive as it is, they've actually lost momentum in recent months. Once ranked as high as sixth, adding Harrington to the group would help build back towards that mark.

After seeing a duo of committed recruits opt to transfer in-state for their final year of high school ball, the Huskers' class is largely centered around Nebraska prospects. Four of the seven verbal pledges will finish their prep careers playing in the Omaha metro area. Even with a local lean, NU's staff has put themselves in contention for several of the top recruits nationally as well.

As of March 31, the Huskers already have 22 official visits set for recruits in the 2027 class. Of that group, eight of them are defensive backs, which means Hadley will have plenty of potential teammates in Lincoln around the same time. The only defensive back currently committed is Tory Pittman III, who also plays safety.

Harrington's Unique Familiarity with Nebraska Recruits

The Huskers signed two 2026 recruits from the very high school where Harrington will finish his prep career. 2027 quarterback commit Trae Taylor is also a former student-athlete at the school.

Claude Mpouma, a four-star tackle prospect, enrolled early and completed his first spring ball with the Big Red on Saturday afternoon, and NU secured a late-cycle commitment from three-star pass-catcher Jamari Brown in February of this year.

Assuming Taylor stays committed until signing day, Harrington will have the ability to become the fourth former Mount Carmel recruit to sign with Nebraska in two classes. A rare opportunity that likely holds some weight in his decision-making process, the Huskers have made the Chicago metro area a point of emphasis as of late, and to this point its paid off.

Husker's Safety Outlook Following 2026

Eight Nebraska defensive backs are listed as safeties heading into 2026, with two of them set to exhaust their eligibility following the fall. For a player like Hadley, that means playing time will be up for grabs, were he to join NU's 2027 recruiting haul.

Likely starters include SDSU transfer Dwayne McDougle and Jamir Conn, who was retained over the offseason. Those also in contention for playing time are juniors Jasin Shiggs and Justyn Rhett, as well as sophomores Caleb Benning and Rex Guthrie.

Regardless of six players eligible to return in 2027, Hadley would quickly become one of the most high-profile former recruits of the group. Without anointing him just yet, the path to see the field early is definitely there.

Safeties on Nebraska Roster:

  1. RFr: Tanner Terch
  2. So: Caleb Benning
  3. So: Rex Guthrie
  4. So: Thomas D’Onofrio
  5. Jr: Jasin Shiggs
  6. Jr: Justyn Rhett
  7. Sr: Jamir Conn
  8. Sr: Dwayne McDougle

Others Visiting on June 19

Harrington will be one of seven recruits who have scheduled official visits over the weekend of June 19. Joining him are four of Nebraska's seven current verbal commits.

During his trip, the four-star safety will be joined by former teammate Trae Taylor, Millard North offensive tackle commit Matt Erickson, Millard South wide receiver commit Antayvious Ellis, and St. Frances Academy defensive tackle commit Jayden Travers.

Also scheduled to be in Lincoln are fellow four-star safety Kennedy Green of Douglas County (GA) and four-star offensive tackle prospect Timi Aliu of Locust Grove (GA). June 19 will mark both uncommitted targets' fifth trip to Nebraska.
