Tonight the first College Football Playoff rankings for 2019 were released, and Notre Dame checked in at No. 15.

The Irish are all but out of the Playoff hunt, needing unheard of chaos to happen for Notre Dame to make its second straight trip to the Playoff. The ranking is important for Notre Dame should the Irish win out because it would help determine if the Irish get into a New Year's Six Bowl game.

Notre Dame lost to No. 6 Georgia (23-17) and No. 14 Michigan (45-14). Notre Dame does not own a win over a Top 25 opponent at this time.

No. 24 Navy is the only future opponent to make the Top 25.

Defending national champion Clemson ranked No. 5 in the initial ranking. The current Top 4 is Ohio State at No. 1, LSU at No. 2, Alabama at No.3 and Penn State at No. 4.
