Notre Dame Falls To No. 16 In Latest Polls

The Irish fell to No. 16 in both rankings
Rick Osentoski, USA TODAY Sports

Notre Dame dropped to No. 16 in both the Associated Press and Amway Coaches Polls after its 45-14 loss at Michigan last night.

The Irish were previously ranked No. 7 in the Coaches Poll and No. 8 in the AP, but the humiliating loss dropped them down nine and eight spots, respectively. The loss also ended any chance Notre Dame had at a second straight trip to the College Football Playoff.

Michigan climbed up to No. 14 in the AP Poll and No. 15 in the Coaches Poll. None of Notre Dame's future opponents are currently ranked, but Navy was the No. 27 team in both polls after improving to 6-1 on the season with a 41-38 victory over Tulane.

Notre Dame has played just two teams that are currently ranked in the Top 25 of either poll, and the Irish are 0-2 in those two games, which includes a Sept. 21 loss to Georgia (23-17).

Notre Dame returns home Saturday for a matchup against 5-2 Virginia Tech. The Hokies were off this weekend.
