Heading into the 2024 NFL Combine week, former Notre Dame All-American Joe Alt was viewed as a crown jewel in an extremely deep and talented 2024 offensive tackles class. The week was about firmly solidifying Alt’s status and putting an exclamation point on it.

On Sunday; the offensive line group went through weigh-ins and hit the field for their workout. Here is how Alt looked, which was unsurprisingly fantastic.

WEIGH-IN RESULTS

It doesn’t take a good scout to watch Alt, and see that he boasts a tremendous frame for the offensive tackle position. From a height-length perspective, he is exactly what you want. Alt hits all the requisite numbers you want at the position.

The most shocking part about seeing Alt is knowing that he is a legitimate 321 pounds. His frame is so sleek, having very little bad weight. There is no reason to believe he can’t put on more weight without sacrificing any athleticism.

Here are the full measurements for Alt.

Height: 6-8 ⅝”
Weight: 321
Arm: 34 ¼”
Hand: 10”
Wingspan: 82 ¾”

ATHLETIC TESTING

From an athletic testing perspective, Alt just needed to check boxes this week. On film, he is a very smooth athlete with easy movement skills. On Sunday, he showcased that athleticism in a big way. It’s hard to classify someone as a “winner” when he was already considered at the top of the class potentially, but Alt did just that.

Here are Alt’s testing numbers from Sunday.

40-Yard Dash: 5.05 seconds
10-Yard Split: 1.73 seconds
Vertical Jump: 28 inches
Broad Jump: 9 feet, 4 inches
Three Cone: 7.31 seconds
Short Shuttle: 4.51 seconds

The 7.31 three-cone time was the eighth best among offensive tackles at the combine going all the way back to 1999. For context, it's the same number posted by former Oklahoma offensive tackle Lane Johnson back in 2013. Johnson, a five-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro, was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. His three-cone number was the best among all offensive tackles at this year's combine.

Alt's 40-yard dash time was the 8th best among all offensive tackles at this year's combine, and his 10-yard split was tied for 5th best among all offensive tackles. Alt's 20-yard shuttle time was the second best among all offensive tackles in this combine group.

POSITIONAL DRILLS

The position drills were the part of the workout that everyone thought would be a place Alt could excel most. When he got into this section of the workout, it just looked like business as usual. Alt is so smooth, has impressive flexibility and change of direction for a player his size.
