Why Didn't The Buckeyes Annihilate Youngstown State?

It was plenty good enough to win on Saturday against an FCS opponent, but did it entirely "look the part"?

Yesterday's Ohio State win over FCS opponent Youngstown State was largely a decent performance. It was plenty good enough to win on Saturday against a team they were overmatched against, but did it entirely "look the part"? How could it have been if they only scored 35 points, including just 7 in the second half?

There's so much to get into from the Week 2 performance, including:

  • Why I think the Kyle McCord vs. Devin Brown battle is over
  • Why did the second half lack any real punch?
  • How serious is the problem on the offensive line?
  • Why have the defensive ends generated such little pressure through two games?
  • TreVeyon Henderson ran with bad intentions
  • Marvin Harrison Jr. is the ultimate game-breaker
  • How can Ohio State overcome having limited possessions?
  • Was the score of the game misleading?

Ultimately, the Buckeyes are 2-0 with a team that has new players in some really important positions. Three offensive linemen from last year are suiting up for their NFL debuts today and C.J. Stroud was the No. 2 overall pick in the draft.

In other words, it's going to take some time for these guys to click.

But time is fleeting and they only have one more game left before their first big test of the season against Notre Dame when they travel to South Bend in a couple weeks. If the problems that manifested themselves against Indiana and Youngstown State reappear against the Irish, the Buckeyes might be in trouble.

Brendan Gulick and Anthony Moeglin break it all down for you after Ohio State had a second start decent win to start the season.
