By OU Media Relations
DENVER — For the third straight week, the No. 1-ranked University of Oklahoma women's gymnastics team put up the nation's highest score of the season — this time a 198.325 — to win a quad meet Sunday afternoon at Magness Arena. The Sooners, who improved to 9-0 on the year, beat host and No. 10 Denver (197.175), No. 11 UCLA (196.550) and Stanford (196.100).
For the third time in three competitions this season, OU's Jordan Bowers, Audrey Davis, Katherine LeVasseur and Faith Torrez each competed in the all-around. Bowers was sensational, scoring at least a 9.925 on all four events and winning with a career-high 39.775. She was followed by LeVasseur in second place (career-high 39.675), Torrez in third place (career-high-tying 39.625) and Davis in fifth (39.550).
The Sooners started the meet on floor and notched a season-high 49.550 on the event to hold a more than two-tenths lead over second-place Denver, which scored a 49.325 on vault. Stanford registered a 49.250 on bars and UCLA a 49.200 on beam. LeVasseur (career high) and Bowers (season high) paced OU with 9.950s in the No. 4 and anchor spots, respectively. Davis and fellow senior Ragan Smith tied season bests with 9.9s and were followed by Torrez with a 9.850 and senior Soraya Hawthorne with a 9.775.
Oklahoma extended its advantage in the second rotation, posting another season high with a 49.600 on vault behind three consecutive 9.950 scores from freshman Hannah Scheible (career high) and LeVasseur and Bowers (season highs) in the No. 2, 3 and 4 positions, respectively. Davis started the rotation with a 9.825 while freshman Keira Wells notched the same score in the No. 5 spot before Torrez anchored with a 9.925 to match a season best. At the midway point of the meet, OU held a score of 99.150 and was followed by Denver and UCLA (98.775) and Stanford (97.725).
The Sooners were nothing if not consistent on the uneven parallel bars, scoring a 49.450 and maintaining a comfortable lead through three rotations. Each of OU's first five competitors on the event — junior Dani Sievers (tied a season high), LeVasseur, Torrez, Smith and Davis — recorded a 9.875 before Bowers anchored with a gorgeous routine that yielded a season-high 9.950. Sievers, LeVasseur, Torrez, Davis and Bowers each stuck their landings and OU led second-place UCLA by 0.650.
OU pulled away from the competition with a stellar performance on balance beam in the final rotation, posting a season-high 49.725 to seal the victory by more than a full point. Davis got Oklahoma off to a strong start with her exceptional 9.950 effort that tied a career high and featured a stuck landing. Wells followed with a stuck landing of her own and a career-high-tying 9.85 before Bowers capped her banner afternoon with an impressive 9.925. Torrez flourished in the No. 4 spot with her near-perfect and career-high-tying 9.975 to continue OU's momentum. LeVasseur matched a season best in the No. 5 position with a 9.9 before Smith punctuated her team's day with a beautiful routine and season-high 9.975.
The Sooners posted the nation's highest score of the season on two events on Sunday with their 49.600 on vault (next highest this year nationally is 49.525) and 49.725 on beam (next best is 49.550).
In addition to the all-around, Bowers earned event titles on vault, bars and floor, and finished fourth on beam. Bowers shared the floor title with LeVasseur and the vault crown with LeVasseur and Scheible. Smith and Torrez tied for first on beam.
