For the third straight year, Oklahoma has been tabbed as the top team in softball by the coaches.

The Sooners were named the unanimous No. 1 team in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced on Tuesday.

OU received 800 total points in the poll, outpacing No. 2 Tennessee as well as Florida State and Stanford, who were tied for No. 3.

Patty Gasso’s Sooners have started the season in the top 10 each of the last 13 years, and Oklahoma has been ranked in the top five in 11 of the past 12 USA Today/NFCA preseason polls.

Its yet another preseason honor for the three-time defending national champions, who also debuted at the top of the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll, as well as the Softball America and D1 Softball preseason polls.

Oklahoma returns plenty of production from last year’s title-winning squad, including Tiare Jennings, Jayda Coleman, Kinzie Hansen, Alyssa Brito, Nicole May, Rylie Boone and Alynah Torres, as well as adding former Oklahoma State ace Kelly Maxwell out of the transfer portal.

The season is around the corner, as OU will start the 2024 campaign on Feb. 8 against Utah Valley at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge. OU will also take on Duke, who debuted at No. 11 in the USA Today/NFCA rankings and No. 7 Washington in Mexico.
