OU Basketball: Jennie Baranczyk, Oklahoma Land a Big 12 Championship

In just two years, Jennie Baranczyk has restored Oklahoma pride and restocked the trophy case.
The Sooners on Saturday concluded Baranczyk’s second regular season at the helm by beating Oklahoma State in Stillwater, then cutting down the nets in Norman, a celebration of the Sooners’ first regular-season conference championship since 2009.

The Sooners rallied in the second half to beat Oklahoma State 80-71 and clinch a share of the Big 12 title.

OU (24-5) finishes tied with Texas atop the Big 12 regular season standings at 14-4. The Longhorns swept the season series over OU and are the No. 1 seed at next week’s Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City, but both teams pick up a trophy.

OU trailed at halftime at Gallagher-Iba Arena but opened the third quarter on an 11-2 run and outscored the Cowgirls 24-10 in the period to seize the lead heading into the final quarter.

Taylor Robertson led OU with 15 points, including three 3-pointers, and also handed out six assists. Skylar Vann had 13 points and 11 rebounds, and freshman Beatrice Culliton scored 11.

After returning home, the team reconvened inside Lloyd Noble, where they were greeted by Sooner Nation, touching off a championship celebration that culminated with the ceremonial cutting of the nets.

John holds a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications from East Central University in Ada, OK. Born and raised in North Pole, Alaska, John played football and wrote for the school paper at Ada High School in Ada, OK. He enjoys books, movies and travel, and lives in Broken Arrow, OK, with his wife and two kids.
