Texas head coach Tom Herman compares Oklahoma State's high-powered offense to a scene from Armageddon

While there have been a few down years during the Mike Gundy era, there's one thing about his teams that have pretty much been a constant: high-powered offense. And his 2019-20 team is no different, even with its third quarterback in as many seasons.

If we take a look at some of the offensive numbers that the Cowboys have put up throughout the non-conference and where they rank nationally, they're rather impressive.

Oklahoma State ranks in the top-15 in the FBS in total offense (12), rushing offense (9), team passing efficiency (9), scoring offense (9), 3rd (3) and 4th (1) down conversion and red zone offense (9). The number in parentheses is the national rank. The category that seems out of character for a Mike Gundy offense is passing offense; the Pokes check in at No. 49 in the country.

But despite that low ranking, the Pokes are putting up some serious yardage and points in 2019. They're averaging 547 yards and 49.3 points per game. And when it comes to rushing the ball, they're averaging 285.3 per game.

Texas coach Tom Herman knows all about Oklahoma State and their high-powered offenses. During his two years at the helm for the Longhorns, Herman is 0-2 against the Pokes.

In fact, Oklahoma State having its third quarterback in as many years doesn't worry Herman one bit.

"I've used the phrase before, it's a scene from Armageddon, right?," said Herman. "It's the scariest environment imaginable -- that's all you had to say. Scariest environment imaginable. You know, they have the nation's leading rusher. They've got an All-American wide receiver. They have a quarterback that can not only throw it to that receiver, but is a threat with his running ability, too. It's going to be a challenge, for sure, but you can't sell you soul, I guess, to stop one because they're so proficient in the other [areas]. You've just got to be sound."

But it's not just those three guys, Spencer Sanders, Chuba Hubbard and Tylan Wallace that Herman's been impresses with. Herman would go on to talk about how impressed he with Gundy's style of evaluating and recruiting.

"He's obviously done a really good job of two things: One is evaluating talent in recruiting and recognizing some diamonds in the rough," said Herman. "Then, he develops the heck out of his guys. They've had a lot of skilled athletes go on to get drafted, so I think when you think of him, that's what you think of is talent evaluation on the recruiting end and development once they get there. Obviously, his offenses speak for themselves."
