Four-star defensive back Kobe Black has released his commitment date. He will choose between Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas A&M, Oregon and LSU on Dec. 13. The 2024 prospect is the second-highest-rated uncommitted player in the 2024 class.

Conveniently, Black is the younger brother of current Cowboys Korie Black. The Waco, TX native is the No. 35 player in the 2024 recruiting cycle according to 247Sports.

In the case the Black did choose Oklahoma State, he would be the school's second-highest-rated commit in its history. He would be a huge pickup for the Cowboys, who have a big opportunity to be a top team in the new Big 12.

In the new Big 12 landscape, the Cowboys can potentially be a contending team on a yearly basis. With Oklahoma and Texas on their way out, the top of the conference will be even more open over the next few years.

To give the Cowboys the best chance to compete moving forward, they'll have to be active in recruiting solid talents and be active in the transfer portal -- two aspects of college football that are heavily impacted by Name, Image and Likeness. Landing Black will require just that as the other four schools in his top five list all arguably offer a better situation.

Each of the three major recruiting services -- 247Sports, On3 and Rivals -- project Black to land in Austin with the Texas Longhorns, the Cowboys' opponent in the Big 12 Championship.

While wearing burnt orange as a Texas native makes plenty of sense for Black, the Cowboys don't exactly have a bad pitch. He was in Stillwater to watch his older brother, Korie, play against BYU to clinch a trip to Arlington for the title game, along with a big win over Oklahoma in the final Bedlam matchup.

The culture the Cowboys have this season is desirable and Bryan Nardo's 3-3-5 defense constantly calls on defensive backs to make some huge plays and step up in big moments, as can be seen by Trey Rucker's game-sealing takeaway over BYU last week.

It also doesn't hurt that Ollie Gordon, the nation's leading rusher, is helping recruit Black to Stillwater on social media.

It's not likely the four-star will select Oklahoma State over the four other schools, but they're still in the running and will be awaiting his decision on Dec. 13.
