While Bedlam is gone in the regular season, future matchups in the postseason feel inevitable.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys played the Oklahoma Sooners for the last time. Well, in the regular season, that is. Everyone knew that leading up to the matchup. That's why the matchup in Stillwater was so highly anticipated.

Still, with all the storylines and narratives heading into the game, the Cowboys took the home victory 27-24 behind some crucial stops from the defense and big plays from both Alan Bowman and Ollie Gordon.

As if it wasn't already understood, the departure from Oklahoma to the Southeastern Conference means the two won't play in the regular season any longer. The historical matchup is going away.

“It won’t happen again in the regular season," Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy said after the win.

The best way these two teams could match up is through a bowl game. They're likely to play in the Texas Bowl or Liberty Bowl if that's the case, two bowl games between Big 12 and SEC foes.

With the addition of the 12-team playoff format, there's a chance they get to matchup in the College Football Playoffs in the future, and maybe even in the near future.

Oklahoma State looks to be one of the top teams in the Big 12 and Oklahoma will be battling in the SEC, but making the 12-team playoffs will be much easier.

These teams matching up in a playoff setting would be electric. Sure, it will suck that they're not matching up in the regular season in Norman or Stillwater, but to see a historical matchup get played with such high stakes would be phenomenal.

Anyway, this weekend was a great farewell to a series that's come to a close, and for Mike Gundy and company, it went the best it possibly could have. Now, it'll be interesting to follow bowl selections hoping for these two teams to get matched up in the future.
