Hubbard Makes First Appearance on ESPN's Heisman Watch

STILLWATER -- It only took the first five weeks of the season for people to come to their senses, but Chuba Hubbard is finally starting to get the recognition he deserves. After a record-setting performance against Kansas State, Hubbard makes is first appearance on ESPN's Heisman Watch.
He checks in at No. 6, just ahead of Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger, with 18-1 odds.
- Jalen Hurts, QB, Oklahoma - Heisman Odds (Caesars Sportsbook): 2-1
- Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama / -130
- Joe Burrow, QB, LSU / 9-2
- Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State / 7-1
- Jonathan Taylor, RB, Wisconsin / 15-1
- Chuba Hubbard, RB, Oklahoma State, 18-1
- Sam Ehlinger, QB, Texas / 1,000-1
- Chase Young, DE, Ohio State / OFF
- Jake Fromm, QB, Georgia / 40-1
The trophy won't be handed out until Dec. 14, but Hubbard has been on a hot streak to start the season and it's possible that he'll be in New York for the ceremony should he continue.
Through the first five games of the season, Chuba's rushed for 965 yards, 379 yards more than Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor who's listed one spot above him on the Heisman list.
His 296 yards against Kansas State marked the highest total of rushing yards this season, but he also holds the No. 2 and No. 6 single game totals this season. He also leads the nation in 50 or more yard rushes bringing his total up to four with an 84-yard touchdown run and a 53-yard run against Kansas State.
Can a running back win the Heisman anymore? With the type of play we're getting from a few quarterbacks on the list this season I think it would be tough, but Hubbard has so far proven everyone wrong.
"Sure, I think it's possible," said Mike Gundy. I think it's comparable to number from the past; that's all we have to go on. I don't really have any idea, but I'm going to say they're going to compare Hubbard to the last running back that won the Heisman."
