The Oklahoma State Cowboys are in the race for the Big 12 title race. They went on a five-game win streak. Ollie Gordon has put together an incredible campaign that received Heisman buzz, despite him barely playing through the first three games. Still, the biggest storyline for the Cowboys this season has been their final battle against Oklahoma in the final edition of Bedlam.

The game went about as perfect as it could have for Mike Gundy and the Cowboys. They took down the Sooners 27-24 in a game that went down to the wire.

Now, the historical rivalry comes to a close, at least for the time being. It's hard to imagine they play a regular season battle for the next ten-plus years.

Assuming these two teams play again, it'll likely come in a playoff or bowl game -- meaning the classic Norman and Stillwater matchups are over.

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney recently commented on the matter, too.

"We're not playing Oklahoma-Oklahoma State. Are you kidding me? How the heck are we not playing Oklahoma-Oklahoma State," Swinney said. "That's like not playing Clemson-South Carolina."

It's true, the historical rivalry is a big part of Oklahoma's culture. The state has no NFL team, and the top two football programs to follow are Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Their matchup had a huge impact on most of the state, and certainly most sports fans in the state.

Still, amidst college football's realignment era and all of the changes, it makes the most sense from a business standpoint to discontinue the series. If the series ever returns, it'll make waves in the college football world.

For Swinney, his Clemson team is 7-4 this season, which is certainly a down year for his team that has been great over the past decade.
