Everyone knows what Ollie Gordon and the Oklahoma State offense did on Saturday, but what about the defense?

The Cowboy defense bent but never broke on Saturday, and Nick Martin’s performance was the reason why.

Martin led the Cowboy defense on Saturday against West Virginia. He had 17 tackles on the night, including 10 solo tackles against the Mountaineers.

OSU’s defense as a whole created problems on Saturday. The Cowboys forced three turnovers, including two forced fumbles against West Virginia.

The defense has been terrific the past three games, for it has forced eight turnovers in those three games.

The sophomore linebacker matched his career high in tackles, for he had the same amount against Kansas State two weeks ago. He also had 1 ½ tackles for loss and a quarterback hurry against West Virginia.

Martin’s 17 tackles against both the Wildcats and the Mountaineers are the most by a Cowboys since Jordan Sterns in 2016.

Since OSU has started playing conference opponents, Martin has been terrific. In four conference games, Martin has 50 tackles, including two sacks and an interception.

Martin so far this season has been tremendous, racking up 71 tackles, including 36 solo tackles through seven games.

OSU head coach Mike Gundy said he is really excited to see the rest of Martin’s career.

"Nick's got a great future, for two reasons. One, he's tough, he's old-school tough. Second thing, he loves football,” Gundy said after the Kansas State game. “Those are two things that are hard to find in recruiting, the young men that love football and don't care about the sideshows, social media, they don't care about whatever else it is kids nowadays care about. He loves football and he's tough. That's why he's a good football player."

Martin will look to continue his stellar play when Oklahoma State takes on Cincinnati next Saturday at 7 p.m. at Boone Pickens Stadium.
