Oklahoma State Could be in Play For Arkansas Transfer When Spring Portal Opens

Could the Cowboys be active in the spring transfer portal window?

Could the Oklahoma State Cowboys be active when the spring transfer portal opens on April 15? Ahead of the portal opening, Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy remained confident his roster would remain intact, maybe losing three or four players for those who want a change of scenery.

In terms of how they'll approach bringing in talent, Gundy explained that Oklahoma State has what they need ahead of the 2024 campaign.

"We really have a team," Gundy said. "We really have what we need. We have enough now to be successful right now, I'll put it that way. We will always be prepared."

Still, Gundy didn't close any door to bringing in new talent adding new depth to the program.

Ahead of the portal opening in a few days, On3's Pete Nakos reported that the Cowboys could be in play for Arkansas offensive lineman Andrew Chamblee, who plans to enter the portal when it opens.

"A source close to the situation told On3 that five schools have emerged as top destinations to watch for the redshirt freshman. Florida State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State and SMU are all expected to be in the mix," Nakos reported.

That's an interesting grouping of teams for the Cowboys to be in the mix with. With two other Big 12 programs and two ACC programs in the mix, the Cowboys will have some solid competition to land Chamblee.

There is an appeal to play at Oklahoma State, though. The program continually produces incredible running backs, which wouldn't be possible without an incredible offensive line. In the short term, Chamblee would have the opportunity to block for Ollie Gordon, the nation's best running back.

The 6-foot-6, 318-pound offensive lineman is a former four-star recruit who redshirted the 2022 season before having an outstanding redshirt freshman season, which earned him an All-SEC Freshman Team selection.

It's no shock Chamblee will be in the running to join one of the two conferences -- the ACC or Big 12 -- as he can't transfer within the SEC. The league doesn't allow in-conference transfers during the spring portal window.

Watching whether Gundy and the Cowboys make a strong push at the offensive lineman -- something that has been a big focus for the program recently -- will be interesting. They landed Isaia Glass in the transfer portal in December and have already landed two offensive lineman commitments in the 2025 recruiting class.
