Oklahoma State football's head coach Mike Gundy's son hit the transfer portal in December. After a variety of offers came through for Gunnar Gundy, he committed to Ohio University on Friday.

Obviously a legacy Cowboy, Gundy spent time with Oklahoma State since 2021, where he's appeared in nine games. In 2022, he completed 19 of his 39 passes for 247 passing yards and three touchdowns to his four interceptions.

In this past football season, he started out the season in a quarterback battle with Garret Rangel and Alan Bowman which led to snaps he likely didn't plan on getting this season. He completed 21 of his 34 passes for 202 passing yards and added a touchdown.

In the Texas Bowl -- after Gundy had hit the transfer portal -- Mike put his son in for their final game together as a coach and player. In his snap taken, Gundy scored a 10-yard rushing touchdown which was essentially a farewell score before he planned on leaving.

Now, Gundy is headed to a situation where he's much more likely to land a starting job at the quarterback position and is joining an Ohio program that is coming off a 10-3 season. Ohio also defeated Georgia Southern in a bowl game this offseason.

While Gundy didn't earn the starting spot for Oklahoma State, he contributed in his third year with the program as the Cowboys went 10-4 with a Big 12 title game appearance and Texas Bowl win.

This is also Gundy's first time leaving town. With his dad entering his 20th year at Oklahoma State as the head coach, Gundy grew up playing football right in Stillwater.

As for the Cowboys, they'll be fine at the quarterback position as they've got a recruit coming in the 2024 cycle along with two backups likely to return as well as Alan Bowman, who recently got another year of eligibility.
