Former Oklahoma State Players Entered Into XFL Draft

Former Cowboys Taylor Cornelius and Jarrell Owens are looking for a chance to land with an XFL team next week during the inaugural draft

STILLWATER -- At least two former Oklahoma State players are looking to extend their football careers as the XFL has announced their draft pool of approximately 1,000 pro football players for the inaugural draft next week and Taylor Cornelius and Jarrell Owens are on the draft list.

The draft takes place on Tuesday Oct. 15 and Wednesday Oct. 16 with the picks taking place on XFL.com and through the various XFL and XFL affiliates social media outlets.

The way the draft is going to work, as all eight teams will be drafting their entire 71-man rosters over the course of the two days:

A quarterback will be assigned to each of the teams prior to a five-phased draft.

1. Skill players (QB, RB, WR, TE)
2. Offensive line (OT, OG, OC)
3. Defensive front seven (DL, LB)
4. Defensive backfield (CB, NB, SS, FS)
5. Open draft (all remaining players after positional drafts, in addition to P/K/LS) 

Taylor Cornelius spent his entire collegiate career in Stillwater and got the nod his redshirt senior year. Having spent four years behind Mason Rudolph, Cornelius was very prepared to take over the offense last season and did a great job.

I love how the OSU website describes Cornelius' situation: "One-time walk-on who waited his turn behind one of the best quarterbacks in school history and became a standout performer when given his opportunity," and that he did.

During his one year as a starter, Cornelius recorded one of the most productive seasons for a quarterback in school history.

He went 288 of 485 for 3,978 yards and 32 touchdowns. He also rushed for 406 yards and 10 touchdowns, and he caught three passes for 24 yards.

He ranked in the top 10 nationally in passing yards, passing yards per game, passing touchdowns, points responsible for per game and total offense.

While interceptions were an issue throughout the season, he threw 13, I'll still believe that if he had more time at the helm, he would've gone down as one of the best quarterbacks in school history.

As for Jarrell Owens, he finished his final season in Stillwater with single-season career highs with 31 tackles, 23 of which were solo stops, 11 tackles for loss, six sacks and five quarterback hurries. A performance that earned him second-team All-Big 12 honors by the coaches.

On his career, Owens finished with 72 total tackles, 54 of which were solo stops, with 20.5 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks. He also defended four passes and forced two fumbles,
