KANSAS CITY, Mo. A pair of second-half goals lifted top-seeded Oklahoma State to a 2-1 win over No. 8-seed Oklahoma in the opening round of the Big 12 Soccer Championship Sunday at Children’s Mercy Victory Field.

Gabriella Coleman and Jaci Jones scored for the 12-ranked Cowgirls as they won their eighth consecutive game to improve to 15-1-3 on the season. OSU will take on Kansas-West in the tournament semifinal match Friday at 4:30 p.m.

OU (8-9-3) took the game’s initial lead in the 41 minute when Erika Middleton recorded her first goal of the season off a Megan Reilly corner kick.

The goal marked only the third first-half goal the Cowgirls have allowed the season, with the others coming by Penn State and Kansas State.

After trailing 1-0 at the break and managing just three shots in the opening half, OSU would get the equalizer in the 57 minute on a beautiful connection by a trio of Cowgirls. Olyvia Dowell dribbled into the box and delivered a pass to Charmé Morgan, who laid it off to Coleman, and the junior converted a shot to the far post to tie the score at 1-1. The goal was Coleman’s seventh of the season.

The score remained deadlocked until the 81 minute. Off a corner kick, the Sooners’ attempt at a clearance went right to Jones, who drilled a shot that deflected off an OU defender and into the net to put the Cowgirls up, 2-1. Jones’ goal was her seventh of the season.

OSU’s defense rose to the occasion over the final nine minutes, limiting OU to just two shots to secure the win.
