The Oklahoma State Cowboys are gearing up for what could be an incredibly special 2024 college football season. While it's very early in the cycle, the Cowboys project to be one of the top teams in the new-look Big 12.

With what the Cowboys accomplished a season ago, despite a rocky start in non-conference play, they've begun to earn some respect after their 2022 campaign set them back in the media.

Oklahoma State is projected to be a ranked team to begin the 2024 college football season, something that didn't happen ahead of last season. On3 provided their way-too-early 2024 college football rankings, which saw Oklahoma State ranked No. 19 and the third-highest Big 12 team.

With the current state of college football -- led by Name, Image and Likeness and route turnover with the transfer portal -- the sport is incredibly unpredictable. Every few months, rosters can look completely different and the program's future outlook can waiver plenty. Still, the Cowboys are returning a bulk of their starters, including their entire offensive starting lineup, which is uncommon in the new era of college football.

Ollie Gordon's return gives Oklahoma State a sure identity and one of the top players in the sport to take into next season. On top of this, he has his entire offensive line returning plus some depth on the way. Alan Bowman will be under center again with the main core of wide receivers returning. Offensively, the team will be set to compete in the Big 12, and Bryan Nardo will be in the second year with his defense as he continues to establish himself in Stillwater.

Utah (No. 12) and Kansas State (No. 14) are the two Big 12 teams projected to be ranked ahead of Oklahoma State. Kansas is slotted at No. 20, just behind Oklahoma State. The new-look league will be quite entertaining to watch as there will be plenty of parity, which is beneficial to Oklahoma State who will be able to compete for titles on a consistent basis.
