Behind key returners for the 2024 college football season, the Oklahoma State Cowboys have limitless potential.

The upcoming college football season will pose an entirely new look for the sport. Oklahoma and Texas started the movement as they are set to depart for the SEC from the Big 12 -- a move that was announced back in 2021.

Big-time programs like USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington are all headed to the Big Ten as the fall of the Pac-12 is here. With the fall of the Pac-12, there's now a Power Four rather than a Power Five. This, of course, impacts the Big 12 and Oklahoma State.

Utah, Arizona, Arizona State and Colorado are all joining the Big 12 in the upcoming college football season. The conference will have a fresh look, and there is arguably a bigger opportunity for Oklahoma State to take over the top of the conference.

Another change to the sport is the addition of the 12-team playoff format, changing from the four-team playoff format the College Football Playoffs had for the last decade. This comes with a five-seven format, meaning the top-five-ranked conference champions are given a playoff bid, followed by the next top-seven-ranked programs.

The winner of the Big 12 is essentially guaranteed a playoff bid, giving a huge opportunity to the Cowboys.

BetOnline released their odds for every program to earn a bid to the College Football Playoffs, which has an expanded pool given the eight additional playoff spots for next season.

Blue blood programs like Ohio State (-1000) and Georgia (-900) hold the best odds to make the playoffs, naturally. Oklahoma State holds decent odds at +800 to make the playoffs. Still, there are six other Big 12 programs with better odds than Oklahoma State to make the playoffs.

The in-conference programs ahead of the Cowboys are Kansas State (-200), Utah (-100), Arizona (+200), Kansas (+250), Texas Tech (+550) and Iowa State (+800).

While +800 odds aren't terrible for Oklahoma State, the in-conference programs ahead of the Cowboys is a bit questionable. Kansas State and Utah holding better odds is understandable, but any program after that is hard to see.

It's not a shock that Vegas continues to slight and underestimate Oklahoma State, though, as it's nothing new.
