Oklahoma State Softball Notebook: Weekend Review (2/25)

The Cowgirls went perfect this weekend, including a win over a top five team in the South Florida Showdown.

Oklahoma State was perfect on the weekend.

After going 1-2 at the Clearwater Invitational last weekend, the Cowgirls went 5-0 this weekend, including a win over No. 4-ranked Washington.

From a combination of good hitting and pitching performances, here is how OSU looked at the South Florida Showdown.

Thursday: 7-0 Win Over Washington; 6-1 Win Over South Florida

OSU got off on the right foot on Thursday, picking up a victory over Washington.

Lexi Kilfoyl was the star of the show, giving up zero runs on two hits with four strikeouts in seven innings of work.

After giving up a single in the first, Kilfoyl retired 18 straight batters before giving up her second and final hit in the seventh against the Huskies

Nothing happened for either team on offense in the first four innings, but OSU changed that narrative in the fifth inning.

After Megan Bloodworth reached base and was moved over to second off a Jilyen Poullard fielder's choice, Tallen Edwards came up to the plate, looking to get her home.

Edwards delivered, hitting a single down the right field foul line, scoring Bloodworth and putting OSU up 1-0.

Claire Timm would do damage in the next at-bat, hitting a bomb over the right field wall for a two-run shot to increase the lead to 3-0.

Freshman Rosie Davis would hit the dagger in the seventh, hitting a three-run home run, scoring Micaela Wark and Haidyn Sokoloski and giving OSU the 7-0 lead.

Kilfoyl would shut the Huskies down in the seventh, securing the victory.

The Cowgirls would then take on USF later in the evening, and it was Kyra Aycock who went the distance. She gave up one run on three hits, with two walks and four strikeouts in seven innings pitched.

Karli Godwin had a stellar day at the plate, going 1 for 3, with that lone hit being a two-run shot in the third inning to increase OSU's lead to 5-0.

Kilfoyl didn't cause problems in the circle, but she did at the plate in the seventh, hitting a solo home run to secure the victory over South Florida.

Friday: 10-1 Win Over Yale

The Cowgirls had one game on Friday, and they made it a quick one as they took down the Bulldogs.

Katie Kutz got the start in the circle, and she tamed the Bulldogs. She gave up one run on three hits, with three walks and four strikeouts in five innings pitched.

Eight OSU players had hits on Friday, but Godwin made sure her hits turned into runs.

She went 2 for 3 with five RBIs, including a double into center field in the seventh inning that scored Timm and Edwards and help OSU take home the run-rule victory.

Saturday: 1-0 Win Over Pittsburgh; 6-0 Win Over Loyola Chicago

Saturday's first game was a pitchers duel, and Ivy Rosenberry came out on top. She gave up zero runs on four hits, with one walk and four strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Both teams couldn't get the bats going throughout the contest, but OSU managed to pull through in the sixth.

Timm and Godwin both got on in the sixth inning, hitting singles into left-center field. Wark then drew a walk, setting up Davis with bases loaded with two outs.

Davis would work the count, reaching base after she drew the walk and sending Timm in to put OSU up 1-0.

Rosenberry shut the door in the seventh, taming the Panthers and helping OSU get to 4-0 on the weekend.

The Cowgirls finished off the weekend with another shutout victory over Loyola Chicago.

Kilfoyl got the start, and she was dominant, giving up zero runs on one hit and eight strikeouts in seven innings pitched.

Lexi McDonald came alive against Loyola Chicago, going 1 for 3, including a three-run home run in the fifth to put OSU up 5-0.

Kilfoyl capped off the weekend with one final rbi-single into center field, scoring Taylor Anderson and securing the victory.

Oklahoma State will head back home, and it will take on South Dakota State in the home opener on Tuesday at 4 and 6:30 p.m. at Cowgirl Stadium in Stillwater.
