Ole Miss lands Samford transfer Robert Allen

Ole Miss got to work on the first day of the spring signing period, adding 6-foot-8 Samford transfer Robert Allen. Where does he slot in?

Wednesday marked the first day of the spring signing period and Ole Miss is already at work on the recruiting trail.

Ole Miss and head coach Kermit Davis announced the signing of Samford transfer forward Robert Allen on Wednesday afternoon. Allen will join fellow transfer Dimencio Vaughn, who committed this past week to the Rebels, in the Ole Miss spring class.

"Robert plays with an outstanding motor. He is a really good rebounder that has great size and can stretch the floor from the perimeter," Davis said. "Robert will bring terrific energy to our gym every single day. I believe we have added two talented guys this spring that truly fit our culture at Ole Miss."

A 6-foot-8 junior, Allen averaged 14.1 points and 5.1 rebounds this past season for Samford. A wing forward, he was also Samford's best rim defender, averaging 1.3 blocks per contest.

Allen went for 20 points four separate times on the season, and has some experience playing really well against SEC competition, going for 17 points and 10 rebounds against Alabama in December. In only two seasons at Samford, he started in 63 of 65 contests.

Unless the NCAA chooses to allow non-penalty transfers this season due to the COVID-19 pandemic cutting seasons short, Allen will have to sit out the 2020-21 season. He has two remaining years of eligibility.

Allen joins a crop of new Rebels including four-star freshman recruit Matthew Murrell and graduate transfer Vaughn. While Allen will likely have to sit out a season, the team will having both Jarkel Joiner and Shon Robinson available this upcoming season, both of whom redshirted this past season.
