Ole Miss Star Marquesha Davis Selected 11th Overall In WNBA Draft

Another Ole Miss Rebels star is off to the WNBA following a dominant two-year stint in Oxford.

Ole Miss might be a football school to most, but on Monday, it was all about the women's hoops.

Well, it actually was about one Lady Rebel and her journey to the WNBA.

After a breakout two-year campaign on the hardwood in Oxford, former guard Marquesha Davis waited 10 picks to hear her name called with the No. 11 overall selection by the New York Liberty in the 2024 WNBA Draft. Davis will represent the Rebels in The Big Apple as the next big star among greats like Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark.

After spending her first three seasons at Arkansas, Davis elected to join the Rebels last season. She exploded onto the court as a diamond in the rough, leading the Rebels in scoring (10.5 points per game) and rebounds (4.8) as the team punched its ticket to a Sweet 16 appearance.

This past year, Davis didn't miss a beat. She averaged 14 points per game and earned All-SEC honors while guiding the Rebels back to the NCAA Tournament. Under her leadership, Ole Miss won a program record 12 games in conference play.

In her final game at Ole Miss, Davis scored six points in a 71-56 loss to Notre Dame in the second round. She also totaled three rebounds and three steals.

While known for her mid-range jump, scouts also believe Davis has impressive ball skills that separate her from others defensively. She's aggressive in stealing balls, averaging 1.5 takeaways per game this past season. Davis also averaged a career field goal percentage of 44.5 percent.

One area of weakness is her 3-point range. Last season, Davis only connected on 23.9 percent of her shots from downtown. She also can be hit-or-miss at the free-throw line, averaging 68.7 percent of shots.

With the selection, Davis becomes the seventh Ole Miss player to be selected in the WNBA Draft, and the first since Shakira Austin went third overall to the Washington Mystic in 2022.
