Ole Miss Adds Michigan Cornerback Amorion Walker Via Transfer Portal

The Ole Miss Rebels have found their replacement for Decamerion Richardson at cornerback.

Ole Miss isn't done adding talent yet.

Michigan cornerback Amorion Walker officially announced Wednesday he'd be transferring to Oxford for the 2024 season. Walker will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Rebels.

Days after Michigan won its first national championship since 1997, Walker announced his intent to enter the portal. The wide receiver-turned-cornerback was looking to return closer to his home of Ponchatoula, La., and extend his playing time.

Walker met with the Rebels' staff over the weekend in Oxford and committed several days later. He's now expected to be a staple of the secondary led by second-year defensive coordinator Pete Golding

The Rebels' aggressive ways continue to pave a path to higher preseason expectations entering spring practice. Even with the losses of Decamerion Richardson (NFL draft), Tyler Baron (Louisville) and Tamarion McDonald (Louisville), Ole Miss remains the top transfer portal team entering February.

Walker's playing time was scarce on both sides in Ann Arbor. He played seven games at wide receiver and six at defensive back, recording three tackles, including a half-TFL against Indiana on Oct. 14.

The Athletic's Bruce Feldman mentioned Walker in his annual "Freak List" article at the start of the season. There's backing to support the claim after fellow Michigan defensive back Will Johnson posted an Instagram story that showed Walker ran a 6.1-second 3-cone drill.

The time would have been a record at the NFL combine among all players. Feldman also mentioned how Michigan's strength coach Ben Herbert was shocked by his transformation from a slim receiver to physical defensive back.

“It’s the fastest time I have ever seen and likely the fastest I will ever see,” Herbert said. “That time is almost a full half-second faster than the fastest time recorded at the combine last spring (Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s 6.57). It would also blow away the combine record of 6.42 set.”

Walker joins a secondary that features transfers Tahveon Nicholson (Illinois), Yam Banks (South Alabama), Key Lawrence (Oklahoma), and Louis Moore (Indiana).
