Ole Miss Rebels Lane Kiffin Shares TE Caden Prieskorn's Status

Ole Miss Rebels tight end Caden Prieskorn is currently away from the program following the death of his father, Gerald Prieskorn.

The Ole Miss football community is mourning alongside tight end Caden Prieskorn following the death of his father, Gerald "Jerry" G. Prieskorn, earlier this week.

During Wednesday's SEC teleconference, Rebels coach Lane Kiffin spoke of the passing, offering his condolences to the family during their time of need.

"He’s back there now, so he really hasn’t been around his teammates. He’s a wonderful kid," Kiffin said. "Obviously a horrible thing to go through, to lose your dad and knowing that you’re losing him for a while now. It’s unimaginable. I just really appreciate how he still tries to help people and be a positive influence around here as usual for a while."

Kiffin did not specify a timetable for being away from the team. On Tuesday, Caden Prieskorn posted an obituary to his social media, paying respects to his father.

Jerry G. Prieskorn was 52 at the time of his passing. He is survived by his wife, Jill, and four children, Caden, Brady, Peyton and Skylar.

"Jerry has left a lasting impact on his children that could never be matched," the obituary read. "Caden will miss the selflessness that Jerry taught him. Peyton will miss the comfort of his dad’s unconditional support. Brady will miss talking to him after his games and spending time together watching Star Wars and Marvel movies. Skylar will miss the encouragement she continuously received from him, but most of all, his ability to make her laugh. His light will continue to shine through his children and the things he has instilled in them.

Caden Prieskorn elected to transfer to Oxford after starting his career at Memphis, coming out of Orion Township, Mich., he missed the first three weeks of the regular season due to a foot injury, but was medically cleared to play in a Week 4 loss against Alabama.
