Penn State Loses First Basketball Recruit of 2021 Class
TaQuan Woodley, a power forward from Camden (N.J.) High who committed to Penn State's 2021 recruitin class in May, has reopened his recruiting process after Pat Chambers' resignation.
Woodley announced his decision on Twitter.
"I have gotten to know Coach Chambers and looked forward to playing for him at Penn State," Woodley wrote. "... Currently, my recruitment is wide open. I would like to hear from any coaches and programs that feel I can make a significant contribution as a student and a basketball athlete."
Woodley is the first player to announce his decommitment after Chambers' Oct. 21 decision to resign. Penn State Athletic Director Sandy Barbour said she accepted Chambers' resignation following an internal investigation into "inappropriate conduct" toward players by Penn State's former head coach for nine years.
Woodley had more than 20 offers from Division I schools before committing to Penn State, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. He told the Inquirer in May that he "just had a good vibe about Penn State right from the jump."
Woodley is a 6-7, 220-pound forward and a four-star prospect according to ESPN, which ranked him as the No. 6 player in New Jersey.
Jim Ferry, a former head coach at Duquesne, was promoted to interim head coach at Penn State. The Lions are scheduled to begin the season in November.
