Penn State Receiver Enters NCAA Transfer Portal

Malick Meiga, who spent four seasons with the Nittany Lions, announces plan to transfer.

A second Penn State receiver is in the NCAA Transfer Portal, as Malick Meiga announced his intention to transfer. Meiga made the announcement on social media one day after fellow receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith entered the portal.

"After a great four years, it's time for a new chapter," Meiga wrote. "I want to express my deepest gratitude to the amazing fans, teammates, and coaching staff at Penn State University. Your support, camaraderie, and guidance have meant the world to me. I am officially in the transfer portal."

Meiga, who has one season of eligibility remaining, appeared in 29 games for the Nittany Lions, primarily as a special-teams player. The 6-4 receiver caught nine passes for 106 yards and a touchdown in his career. That touchdown covered 67 yards against Rutgers in 2021. Meiga won Penn State's John Bruno Memorial Award as the top special teams player in 2022.

Penn State has 13 scholarship receivers following the departures of Lambert-Smith and Meiga. Lambert-Smith was the program's most experienced returning player with 37 career starts. After the Blue-White Game, Penn State coach James Franklin said that he expected an "interesting" two weeks with the portal open.

“I love our wide receivers,” Franklin said after the Blue-White Game. “We have a bunch of guys in the room who have the chance to take the next step. I believe they’re going to take the next step. I think [receivers coach Marques Hagans] has done a really good job this spring. This summer is going to be really important. The positive thing is, in college football, you can improve in the passing game in the summer. We’re going to do those things. We believe in them.”
