Blake Hinson Surpasses 1,000-Point Mark With Pitt

Blake Hinson is etching his name in the Pitt Panthers record books during a historic season.

PITTSBURGH -- Blake Hinson has been in college basketball for a long time and been productive every time he's stepped on the floor. But these past two seasons have been by far the best of his career and he cemented that fact by surpassing a career milestone

With a driving layup scored at the 7:03 mark of the first half of a game against Louisville, Hinson surpassed the 1,000-point threshold at Pitt. He has now scored 1,550 total points in his career between stops at Ole Miss and Pitt, but the vast majority of his scoring has been done in blue and gold.

Hinson entered the game having scored 988 points in 60 games and is now the fourth-fastest Panther to ever reach the millennium mark, according to Panther Lair's Jim Hammett. Only Don Hennon (44), Billy Knight (45), and Brian Shorter (50) reached 1,000 points in their Pitt careers quicker than Hinson did.

Hinson has done most of his damage from beyond the 3-point line. He entered the Louisville game having made 179 3-pointers in his Pitt career, accounting for 537 of his 988 total points. He's shot 39% from deep and 50% from 2-point range during his Pitt career.

He led the Panthers in scoring and rebounding last season, as they earned their first NCAA Tournament bid in seven years, and earned second-team All-ACC honors. This season, Hinson is well on his way to a first-team All-ACC selection as the league's leading 3-point shooter and fifth-leading scorer.

He's been extremely productive for the Panthers but Hinson, who sat out for two seasons at Iowa State with a medical issue before transferring to Pitt, said that coming to Pittsburgh has been a blessing beyond the court and that this program has "changed my life."
