CBS: Pitt First Team Out of NCAA Tournament

The Pitt Panthers are inching closer and closer to the NCAA Tournament bubble.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers are on the verge of cracking the NCAA Tournament field, at least according to one bracketologist from a national outlet.

CBS Sports college basketball insider Jerry Palm released a new set of NCAA Tournament projections at the onset of a new week and he has Pitt moving up to become the first team out of the projected field. The Panthers lead a "First Four Out" group also populated by Utah, Texas A&M and Iowa.

The Panthers are chasing New Mexico, Colorado, Seton Hall and St. John's, who comprise the Last Four In in that order. Pitt trails three of those teams (Seton Hall being the lone exception) in NET Ranking but has more wins than the Pirates and Red Storm.

Pitt rolled to an 11-3 record over their final 14 games in ACC play but still clearly has some work left to do as they prepare for the ACC Tournament in Washington, D.C. this week.
