GREENSBORO -- A long-time rival of the Pitt Panthers could be on his way out. After Jim Boeheim's Syracuse Orange fell on a last-second shot to Wake Forest in the second round of the ACC Tournament, he hinted that

The man who's led one of Pitt's biggest rivals since 1977 was asked, like he has all season, if he would consider stepping away from the team at the end of this year. Boeheim said he knows that's an option, but left it up to the University.

"You know, it's a university," Boeheim said. As I've said from day one when I started working here, the university hired me, and it's their choice what they want to do. I always have the choice of retirement, but it's their decision as to whether I coach or not."

Boeheim said he hasn't talked to anyone from Syracuse about what next year holds for him, whether it be as the school's men's basketball coach or a different job at the school.

"The university hasn't offered me anything, whether to work or do anything at the university," Boeheim said. "That's their choice."

But later during his postgame press conference, Boeheim reversed and didn't give any definitive answers about whether he wants to stop coaching. Boeheim said "This is up to the university" when asked if he would retire. He was then asked if he wanted to come back and said "I didn't say that."

When asked how he'll make the decision whether or not to return, Boeheim said "You're talking to the wrong guy." One final question about his future came at the end of his media availability and Boeheim responded by saying he and the school still need to discuss what he'll do.

"I said it's up to the university," Boeheim said. "They have to make their decision, and it's up to them. I hope we can come to a good agreement. I mean, that remains to be seen."
