PITTSBURGH -- Mouhamadou Gueye was one of the few bright spots for the Pitt Panthers during a particularly difficult men's basketball season. He stifled opponents with his length, hit jump shots for a team in desperate need of shooting and emerged as Pitt's second-best player behind All-ACC honoree, John Hugley.

Gueye's performance clearly turned the heads of scouts and executives, because he is now getting a shot at a career playing basketball professionally. According to a report from George Mitchellowski of Pittsburgh Sports Now, Gueye will work out with the Toronto Raptors next Thursday and is working on scheduling workouts with other professional teams.

Gueye began his career at Stony Brook and was named America East Defensive Player of the Year in 2020, before using his last year of eligibility to play for Pitt. Following a slow start, he eventually became one of the steadiest players on last season's Panthers team. He averaged 10 points, six rebounds and two blocks per game while shooting 44% from the field and 36% from three.

The Raptors already have a former Panther, Justin Champagnie, in their organization. Champagnie went undrafted following a first-team All-ACC sophomore season. During his first year as a professional, Champagnie swung between the NBA and G-League. He put up impressive numbers - 21 points and eight rebounds per game in 14 appearances - with the Raptors' G-League affiliate, the Raptors 905.
