PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers' pursuit of new guards and wings to staff their roster after this offseason comes in the wake of huge losses to their backcourt. Nike Sibande, Jamarius Burton, Greg Elliot and Nelly Cummings are on their way out and Pitt has turned to the transfer portal to try and plug those holes they leave behind.

The Panthers' have found a couple of strong candidates already and one of them comes from an ACC rival. Joe Girard, Syracuse's leading scorer from this past season, is one of those candidates. After entering the transfer portal, he's heard from Pitt, alongside Indiana, Tennessee, Auburn, Butler, LSU, Florida, Ohio State, Loyola Chicago, Stanford, Clemson, Nebraska and BYU.

Girard averaged a career-high 16.4 points and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 38% from 3-point distance last season. He's leaving the door to declare for the NBA Draft open while also searching for a new school to play at potentially.

His scoring, shooting ability and experience all combine to make him an excellent fit for a Panthers team that is losing all of those things in bunches this offseason.
