Cummings, a diminutive and dynamic guard from nearby Midland, Pennsylvania, grew up a Pitt fan but ended up playing his first four seasons of college basketball for Bowling Green and Colgate. After making it to two NCAA Tournaments and landing on two All-Patriot League teams, he elected to transfer back home.
He was a star for the Panthers, scoring in double figures and leading the team in assists during a landmark year in which the program returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in seven years. Averaging 11.1 points and 4.8 assists per game while knocking down 36% of his 3-point shots, Cummings helped the Panthers record a winning season for the first time during Jeff Capel's tenure and set a program record for ACC wins in a year.
