Report: Rutgers Transfer Paul Mulcahy Out on Pitt

In this story:
PITTSBURGH -- Looking to fill out their 2023-24 roster with one more veteran guard, the Pitt Panthers had reached out to Rutgers transfer Paul Mulcahy and even set up a Zoom call with the coveted guard.
But according to one report, the Panthers are not in the running for Mulcahy any longer. He is said to be focusing his attention on Gonzaga, Kentucky, Notre Dame and Washington, with another high major possibly in the mix as well.
Some quick nuggets before I disappear again:
— Trilly Donovan (@trillydonovan) June 18, 2023
- Paul Mulcahy focusing on Gonzaga, Kentucky, Notre Dame and Washington
- Heard a very weird rumor that there’s another high-major out there that could open, but don’t love the source
- Preston Murphy’s show-cause ends next week
At 8.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists to just 1.8 turnovers per game, Mulcahy would have been a great fit for Pitt. He's also played in 121 career games, 81 of which were starts, and has played in three NCAA Tournament games over two years. What's more, Mulcahy's a 35.7% 3-point shooter for his career, which doesn't hurt.
The advanced stats also paint a picture of a player that even further fits what the Panthers need. Mulcahy's posted an assist rate north of 28% for each of the past two seasons - an elite mark among Division I players. Not only is he a plus defender (career-high 3.2 defensive box plus-minus and 2.9% steal rate last season) he is remarkably efficient offensively (103.1 offensive rating on just 17.7 usage rate).
