Pitt Football Preparing For First Training Camp Scrimmage
PITTSBURGH -- Pat Narduzzi called it "the most important scrimmage of the summer". Why? Because it's the first and the Pitt Panthers are eager. They've played muted football for weeks now, unable to let loose and play real football with all of its accompanying violence and, of course, injury risk.
So the Panthers are taking it relatively easy for the next two days ahead of their first intrasquad scrimmage of training camp on Saturday. Pitt was in full pads on Thursday, but will go through what Narduzzi called a light "spider" day on Friday so that everyone is well-rested for this weekend's scrimmage.
"We have a really good scrimmage planned for Saturday, which is going to be an important one," Narduzzi said. "Probably the most important one of the year. I'm looking forward to seeing what we have there."
And ahead of their first live scrimmage, the Panthers have had to teach a lot. Narduzzi said that his team has been busy putting in place and tweaking plays and schemes with every unit - offense defense and special teams.
Narduzzi also covered competition along the offensive line and the importance of this offseason's transfer additions during his Thursday morning press briefing.
