Former Pitt CB Signs With Panthers

Former Pitt Panther Dane Jackson will become a Carolina Panther.

PITTSBURGH -- A former Pitt Panther will be a Carolina Panther next season after agreeing to terms with the NFL club as an unrestricted free agent.

Cornerback Dane Jackson, a former seventh-round pick out of Pitt in 2020, is signing with the Carolina Panthers after his rookie contract with the Buffalo Bills expired with the start of the new league year this season. Financial terms have not yet been disclosed.

Jackson was a valuable reserve for the Bills over the past four seasons. He appeared in 52 games, starting 28, and accounted for 152 total tackles, three interceptions and 28 passes defended. With the Bills facing a mass of injuries to their secondary during the 2022 season, Jackson paired with his former Pitt teammate Damar Hamlin and started 14 games.

Jackson spent five years as a Panther and appeared in 46 games, totaling 149 tackles, four interceptions and 39 passes defended. He was a second-team All-ACC selection in 2020 and was invited to the Senior Bowl that season.

The Panthers recently traded one of their starting cornerbacks to the Pittsburgh Steelers, so there could be an opportunity for Jackson to play a lot right away.
