Pitt's Erick Hallett, Calijah Kancey Earn Midseason All-American Honors from The Athletic

Two Pitt Panthers were named All Americans by The Athletic.

PITTSBURGH -- With six games done and six more to go in the college football regular season, the sport is taking stock of itself and part of that process includes handing out some midseason awards. The Athletic published their midseason first and second-team All-Americans and among them were two Pitt Panthers.

Defensive tackle Calijah Kancey earned second-team honors and safety Erick Hallett was named to the first team. Alabama, Illinois, Georgia, Iowa, Ohio State, Michigan, Tennessee, Arkansas and Clemson were the only other schools besides Pitt to have multiple players named All-Americans.

"The 5'11 free safety has had a nose for the ball, racking up three interceptions, six pass breakups and two tackles for loss," The Athletic staff wrote of Hallett. "According to PFF, he’s allowed just nine receptions on 26 targets for 71 yards."

Kancey has already been named a first-team All-American by CBS Sports. He finished last season as a third-teamer according to the Associated Press. This is Hallett's first midseason selection.
