PITTSBURGH -- For the first time ever, a Pitt Panther has received ACC Athlete of the Year honors. Quarterback Kenny Pickett, who graduated this spring and was drafted in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, won the Anthony J. McKelvin Award for Male ACC Athlete of the Year, the conference announced on Friday.

Pickett is the 69th recipient of the award, which has been given to such superstars as Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, Phillip Rivers and Trevor Lawrence.

'It is a tremendous honor to receive this award from the ACC, a conference that annually produces so many accomplished athletes,' said Pickett. 'As always, I share this honor with my Pitt teammates, coaches and staff. Winning the ACC championship together is something I will cherish forever.'

He earned this award by leading the Panthers to the first 11-win regular season in more than four decades, the first conference title in program history and a New Year's Six Bowl game berth.

Pickett tallied 4,319 passing yards to go along with 49 total touchdowns compared to just seven interceptions. He was named a Heisman Finalist and ACC Player of the Year for his outstanding play during the 2021 campaign.
