Pitt Inks Talented In-State Defenders on Signing Day

The Pitt Panthers added an assembly of home state talent on National Signing Day.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers have added a group of signees fronted by a pair of in-state defenders to their Class of 2024 as National Signing Day proceeds.

First up was defensive lineman Jahsear Whittington from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Whittington, rated as a four-star prospect by Rivals, represented Pitt's first commitment of the class back in April of 2022. He chose the Panthers over the likes of Penn State, Michigan and Tennessee among others.

Following Whittington was Cameron Monteiro, a 6'3 and 180-pound wide receiver from Brockton, Massachusetts. Monteiro is a consensus three-star recruit and Pitt's only wide receiver among the members of the signing class. He joined the Panthers over Virginia and Kentucky, the two other finalists for his services.

Nigel Maynard is one of three defensive backs in the class to sign with Pitt up to this point. A product of Stewarts Creek High School in Smyrna, Tennessee, Maynard is a consensus three-star recruit who ranked as highly as the No. 27 cornerback and No. 110 player in Tennessee. He represents the Panthers' first high school signee from Tennessee since Chad Voytik in 2012.

The Panthers didn't have to look far for their quarterback in their class as they signed Julian Dugger, a consensus three-star recruit from Penn Hills High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dugger, who registers as a dual-threat prospect, committed to the Panthers after impressing coaches with a standout performance at a camp held by the program this past summer. He is Pitt's first high school quarterback signee from the WPIAL since Ben DiNucci in 2015.

Cameron Lindsey, who is from Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, also joined the fray and marked Pitt's third signee from the WPIAL alongside Dugger and Ty Yuhas. Seen as a four-star recruit by both ESPN and Rivals, Lindsey was also rated as high as No. 9 at his position in the nation. Lindsey joins Whittington as the only two defensive players from Pennsylvania in the signing class for the Panthers.

The Panthers have now signed 19 of their 20 commits in the class of 2024 and are waiting on only Tayshawn Banks to finalize his plans, but Pitt is not expected to ultimately add him to the class.
