Former Pitt RB Set for Return from Injury

Former Pitt Panthers standout James Conner has recovered from his knee injury.

PITTSBURGH -- A former Pitt Panthers running back was in the middle of an outstanding season in the NFL before an injury forced him to put the strong campaign on hold.

But the injury hasn't kept former Pitt star James Conner down for long. This week, Conner was back at practice with the Arizona Cardinals, who then designated him for a return injured reserve.

Before he suffered a knee injury that kept him sidelined for about four weeks, Conner helped power the Cardinals offense, rushing for 318 yards and two touchdowns in four games. He exited in the second quarter of an October game against the Bengals after gaining 48 yards on six carries. Conner was able to jog off the field and to the locker room after he was examined in the medical tent.

Conner, the 2014 ACC Player of the Year, ended his career as the ACC's all-time leader in rushing touchdowns and ranks second in Pitt history in rushing yards and touchdowns and third in points scored. He was drafted in the third round by the Steelers in 2017 and has enjoyed a strong seven-year career in Pittsburgh and Arizona ever since.
