PITTSBURGH -- The start of the 2024-25 college basketball team is still months away but the Pitt Panthers already have early odds to win the national championship and they are longshots in a crowded field of contenders

The Panthers are tied for 60th with nine other teams - Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Iowa, Nebraska, NC State, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Penn State and South Carolina - at 150/1 odds to win in all at the end of the 2024-25 season and cut down the nets at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, according to BetOnline.ag.

Seven ACC teams have been given better odds to win it all. Duke leads the way with 11/1 odds to take home their sixth national championship, followed by North Carolina at 14/1, Miami at 50/1, Clemson at 100/1 and Louisville, Virginia and Wake Forest at 120/1.

The Panthers will lose leading scorer Blake Hinson to graduation and star freshman guard Bub Carrington to the NBA Draft. Hinson is expected to declare as well. Starting center Federiko Federiko and reserve forward William Jeffress entered the transfer portal, leaving the program with four scholarships to use after incoming freshman Brandin Cummings and Amdy Ndiaye arrive.

Pitt has far from a completed roster and, even after standout freshman point guard Jaland Lowe announced his return to Pittsburgh, they will have a chance to bolster their ranks this spring before getting back to work on trying to avenge a bitter end to the 2023-24 season.
