Purdue freshman guard Fletcher Loyer ranks second on the team in scoring with 11.6 points per game this season. He was an All-Big Ten honorable mention, the conference announced on Tuesday.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — In his first season of college basketball, Purdue freshman guard Fletcher Loyer was named an All-Big Ten honorable mention, the conference announced Tuesday.

Loyer was among 21 players across the league to be recognized with the honor, including teammate and fellow freshman Braden Smith.

Loyer was second for the Boilermakers in scoring during the regular season, posting 11.6 points per game. He has made a team-high 54 shots from the 3-point line while shooting 32.9 percent from deep.

Back on Jan. 13, Loyer recorded a career-high 27 points on 8-of-15 shooting — including six 3-pointers — in a 73-55 rout of Nebraska at Mackey Arena. He has scored in double figures in 18 out of 31 games so far this season.

Loyer joined the Boilermakers as the Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year following his senior season at Homestead High School in Fort Wayne, Ind.

He set the school's single-season scoring record with 726 points while making 73 shots from the  3-point line and a school-record 179 free throws.

Loyer averaged 26.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game, leading Homestead to the regional semifinal. He is the only player in Homestead history to have two seasons of 600 or more points.

The four-star recruit won the National High School 3-point Championship in New Orleans after his senior season.
