Report: South Carolina MBB In Contact With Memphis Transfer

Lamont Paris and the South Carolina Gamecocks made hay in the transfer portal not long after the end of the 2022-23 season, as they added players the likes of Minnesota's Ta'Lon Cooper, The Citadel's Stephen Clark, Vanderbilt's Myles Stute, and Wofford's BJ Mack. This group addresses multiple needs that Carolina had after the conclusion of this past season, but if you're a coach like Lamont Paris who's trying to build a rock-solid foundation for the Gamecocks, then you never rest on your laurels when it comes to talent evaluation and recruiting.
It appears that coach Paris is certainly subscribing to that philosophy, as Hitmen Hoops Media reported on Monday that South Carolina was one of several teams that have made contact with Memphis forward Chandler Lawson, who entered the transfer portal on Monday.
Memphis F Chandler Lawson (@chandlerlawson0 ) has received interest from the following schools since hitting the transfer portal, per source:
— Hitmen Hoops (@HitmenHoops) June 19, 2023
- Cal
- St. Louis
- DePaul
- Santa Barbara
- BYU
- Arkansas
- South Carolina

As an Oregon transfer who arrived at Memphis in the 2021 offseason, it seems that Lawson has had difficulty finding his footing in terms of increased playing time on the floor. Despite being a career 53 percent shooter when on the floor, Chandler has only averaged 17.4 minutes of game time per contest throughout his college career.
With South Carolina possessing some new bodies in the front court this season, there's no question that adding someone with high-level college experience like Lawson could only benefit Lamont Paris and the Gamecocks in that area of their roster.
