REPORT: Former Gamecock OL Standout Brandon Shell Intends To Retire

Shane Beamer and South Carolina's Football program are in the midst of a building project along the offensive line, as they hope that current players like Markee Anderson and "Big Tree" Babalade, along with 2024 commits in Kam Pringle, Josiah Thompson, and Blake Franks can help change the narrative of that unit. One player who helped the Gamecocks accomplish this exact goal near the end of the Steve Spurrier era was South Carolina native Brandon Shell, who started 47 career games between 2012 and 2015.
Shell's longevity and production led to him being drafted in the 5th round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the New York Jets. Brandon would spend four seasons in East Rutherford before playing two seasons for the Seattle Seahawks and last season with the Miami Dolphins. During that span, Shell started 72 games, with 40 of those starts coming from his time with the Jets.
A little bit into training camp this month, however, for one reason or another, the former Gamecock standout has decided that now's the time to hang it up, as reports began circulating on Tuesday morning that Shell plans to retire from football. Brandon is the first Gamecock since the beginning of the NFL's 2023 calendar year to announce his retirement and leaves the Bills with one less offensive tackle as they approach the end of camp.
