Gamecocks Offer Recent Portal Entry Cam'Ron Johnson

South Carolina's Football staff have dispensed an offer to Cam'Ron Johnson, a transfer offensive lineman from Houston who could help protect Spencer Rattler.

New offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley and the rest of South Carolina's Football coaching staff will have questions to address when Spring practice begins next week. One of those questions pertains to Teasley's offensive line unit, a unit that's replacing three starters in Eric Douglas, Jovaughn Gwyn, and Dylan Wonnum, who combined for a total of 124 starts during their time in Columbia.

Shane Beamer and the offensive staff will, of course, hope that veterans who are currently on the roster, like Trai Jones and Tyshawn Wannamaker, and offseason additions like Yale Transfer Nick Gargiulo, will be able to step up into each of these vacated roles. As Beamer has conveyed in the past, however, he wants his program to be developed through constant competition, which means that he and his assistant coaches aren't afraid to scour the country for more talent.

That was evidenced today by the offer South Carolina dispensed to Cam'Ron Johnson, a Houston offensive lineman who entered the portal yesterday afternoon as a graduate transfer.

A glance at some of the advanced stats on Cam'Ron Johnson's play from last fall paints a clear picture of why the Gamecocks are throwing their proverbial hat into the ring for this recruitment, as according to Pro Football Focus, Johnson only gave up one sack in his 586 pass block snaps in 2022.

Johnson played in 27 games during his time in the Lonestar state, starting 13. He would go a long way towards offsetting the massive exodus of experience South Carolina's offensive line unit endured this offseason.
