South Carolina Committed to Building the Trenches

South Carolina has made an emphasis to recruit and build their offensive and defensive lines in upcoming recruiting classes.

One of the biggest weaknesses for the South Carolina Gamecocks in 2022 was the trenches. The offensive and defensive lines had some struggles keeping up with opponents at times. As a result, South Carolina's coaching staff has made it a point to recruit talent on both the offensive and defensive lines.

One of South Carolina's crowning achievements over the past few months was receiving the commitment of Kam Pringle, an offensive tackle considered a top 50 player in the nation by many recruiting databases. Though Pringle is a part of South Carolina's 2024 recruiting class, the Gamecocks' mission of building the trenches is reflected in their 2023 class. The top three players in the Gamecocks' 2023 class, Desmond Umeozulu, Mark Anderson, and Xzavier Mcleod, are all either defensive or offensive linemen.

South Carolina's mission to build the trenches is also clearly displayed through the Gamecocks' efforts to bring OL Blake Franks to Columbia. Though Franks might not be the flashiest prospect in his class, South Carolina understands the importance of building the trenches, which is why the coaching staff is pushing so hard for the prospect. Franks has even said that he has received calls twice a week from Head Coach Shane Beamer and received calls every day from Offensive Lines Coach Lonnie Teasley.

The Gamecocks also recently offered Penei Sewell's cousin, 2024 OL Deyvid Palepale. Palepale is just a three-star from Pennsylvania, a testament to South Carolina's scouting department scouring the nation for talent. South Carolina has found one of their recipes to success for the future is developing the trenches, meaning they will continue to emphasize finding talented linemen on both sides of the ball.
